Domestic Violence is a global menace to the society and the abuser uses tyrannical strategies.
FACTS ABOUT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE/ABUSE
Also Refereed to as Intimate Relationship Abuse.
- 1 in 3 women ,and 1 in 4 men experience some form of Domestic Violence during their lifetime directly or as child witnesses.
- The Abusers consciously desire to gain control and make the choice to harm or kill their victims.
- Domestic Violence abuse is under -reported to the police or other help authorized offices
- IT is usually kept as a family secret and the learned religious and/or cultural belief applies to both parties ,more so women :”Do Not wash your dirty linen in public” ,
- Most victims of domestic violence do not seek medical care or treatment even for very serious injuries
- Domestic violence is a complex pattern of abusive acts and behavior which are not always beatings.There are many other forms of abuse for example economic or spiritual abuse.
- Domestic violence is all about power and control with whatever means possible, even chaining and house hostage
- The chances of transforming an abuser without professional help are almost nil.
SOME DANGEROUS CONSEQUENCES

- Absenteeism from work
- Non-attendance of women group meetings
- A lack of basic necessities leading to a poverty-stricken life on the streets.
- An addiction and the excess use of alcohol ,drugs and other substance abuse.
- Post natal depression or during pregnancy trauma due to stress and abuse.
- Anxiety leading to depression and even in some cases suicide.
- Sacking from job due to poor performance.
- Appearances of unkempt hair,bad body odour and anxiety,mental health behaviors.
- Forced abortion because of unwanted pregnancy by the partner.
- Sadness,hallucinations,paranoia and other mental disorders.
- Extreme loss of weight or extreme gain
- Loneliness,depression and total isolation due to unfounded feelings of guilt and shame
- An abusive home complaints of disturbing noises causing children to be taken into foster home care.
- Initial reports from police complaints and hotline data from countries around the world show an increase in intimate violence promoting the United Nations to call for urgent government action.
- Human Rights Watch have asked governments to provide more shelters and details on how to reach marginalized women because of their age,disability limited access to the internet,working from home,or precarious housing situations.
